Bear's Den - Appalachian Trail

Owned by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and operated by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, Bear's Den provides a gateway connecting people to the "rollercoaster" section of the Appalachian Trail. Bear's Den Lodge, a historic stone mansion built in 1933, is situated approximately 150 yards from the trail - where a beautiful, westward overlook of the Shenandoah Valley awaits you!

Before you start an outdoor fire of any kind...

Virginia law restricts outdoor burning from February 15 through April 30 when high winds are most prevalent during daytime hours. Outdoor burning is only permitted between 4 PM and midnight during this 11 week period.

There are locations you can take recycling...

In Loudoun County, the Western Loudoun Recycling Center is located in Purcellville (across from Harmony Middle School). The center is open everyday during daylight hours. Please be sure to remove lids and rinse cans prior to recycling.

In Clarke County, the Quarry Rd Convenience Center accepts household trash and recycling of paper, cardboard, aluminum or steel cans, and plastic (#1 and #2). It does not accept glass, plastics #3 through #7 or yard waste of any kind. Please do not put plastic bags in any of the recycling bins.
